The Padma Purana account (via Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham) identifies the two-faced bead with Ardhanarishvara — the composite Shiva-Parvati form — under the rulership of the Moon, with the mantra Om Namah. Wikipedia's summary of rudraksha lore separately notes a popular custom that married people wear a two-faced bead, consistent with its union symbolism.
