Mangalsutra

Mangalsutra — 13 pieces in the VIZHEE Pendants collection. The mangalsutra — a gold-and-black-bead thread tied at marriage — the central symbol of a married Hindu woman's status. Mangalsutra combines the Sanskrit mangala (auspicious) and sutra (thread). The groom ties it around the bride's neck during the wedding rites, most directly during the Saptapadi (seven vows), and married women in many communities wear it thereafter. The mangalsutra is worn as an enduring symbol of the marital bond and is traditionally associated with wishing long life and well-being for one's spouse, a sentiment renewed simply by wearing it daily. A necklace tied around a bride's neck by the groom during the Hindu wedding ceremony, worn thereafter as the visible mark of a married woman.
