Anklets — 6 pieces in the VIZHEE Gifting & Occasions collection. Silver anklets (payal) — the traditional foot ornament of Indian women, part of the sixteen classical adornments. The payal or anklet is traditionally made in silver rather than gold, since gold is associated with the goddess Lakshmi and considered inappropriate for the feet. It is counted among the shodasha shringar, the sixteen traditional adornments of a Hindu woman, and married women in many communities wear it as a mark of marital status. Anklets are worn today by women of any marital status simply as jewellery in most urban settings, though the custom of silver-for-the-feet and the celebratory character of gifting a payal at a wedding still holds in many families. A chain or beaded band worn around the ankle, traditionally in silver — in many Indian communities a marker of a married woman, and part of bridal adornment.
